The two institutions sign the script working in headquarters LAPAN on Rawamangun, Jakarta, Saturday (1/2), represented by the head of the EIGHTH Dr. Adi Sadewo Salatun, Msc and Dr. David Williams, Chief Executive UKSA.

The cooperation is to support the interests of Indonesia and the United Kingdom, especially the EIGHTH and the UKSA, which also related to capacity building of researchers in EIGHT satellite Pengindraan SAR Remote Equatorial substituents.

Series of cooperation will be continued with a Policy Discussion on "the SAR Satellite Application for Supporting MRV, REDD +, and Climate Change Mitigation" which will be attended by policy-makers of the EIGHTH, Bappenas, UKP4, and the National Council on climate change.

Also a number of related institutions include Ministry of environment, Ministry of forestry, BMKG, Bakosurtanal, BPPT.

The event will take place on Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at 09: 00 to 12: 00 pm on Aryaduta Jakarta Center, said the EIGHTH in the press persnya.

Climate change and increasing economic became the focus of the cooperation targets in Indonesia and the United Kingdom. Cooperation will be beneficial for the development of capacity Measurement Reporting Verification (MRV) or the measurement of carbon emissions due to deforestation and forest degradation to tackle climate change.

From the side of the economy, this cooperation will be beneficial in the field of Earth observation. This will help Indonesia among others for the monitoring of food security, fisheries, ocean monitoring and monitoring of planting rice, and disaster management.

Cooperation in the field of climate change is in line with the determination of President Dr Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono to reduce carbon emissions by up to 26 percent in 2020.

Twenty-six percent is comprised of six percent of the energy sector, six percent of waste management, and 14 percent for forest land management. The President is also committed to lowering the forest fires or land in Indonesia for about 20 percent per year.

This determination can be realized by the management of forests. The role of Indonesia led Eight in this effort i.e. monitor the forests with remote sensing satellite SAR Equatorial substituents.

UKSA help Indonesia in strengthening bilateral relations with the United Kingdom to monitor forests and land by providing satellite data, expertise, as well as the related infrastructure.

By way of monitoring the effective and accurate assisted international network, Indonesia is expected to show evidence to the world in participating contribute to fulfilling the determination of carbon emissions reductions through the monitoring of the Earth Indonesia.

Climate is closely related with human life. Climate change can have a major impact on different sectors of human well-being. To which countries of the world perform various efforts as step adaptation and mitigation of impacts of climate change.

"This is the underlying working Eight and UKSA," said EIGHTH.

This cooperation will give effect to increase the capacity of human resources in Indonesia, especially in the field of related program EIGHT satellite development.

Eight have been mengorbitkan satellite Lapan Tubsat and is developing three experimental satellites, i.e. Eight-Orari and Eight A2 (called Twin-Sat), as well as Eight-IPB.

While for the United Kingdom, this cooperation will enhance the role and contribution of these countries in the world in the handling of climate change.
