He says despite the potential of renewable energy resources are abundant in Indonesia, today in the real as a power plant electrical energy is still very small.

"On the other hand, biomass energy resources in Indonesia could not be ignored, because it proved able to donate 17,59 from total energy supply national in 2008, only losing from petroleum (37,01%) and coal (26,24 percent)," he said.

According to him, the biomass is not to be compared with coal. Coal is "the real fuel", while biomass rather difficult as fuel, though capable of burning because "content" belong to combustibles.

Thus, not too surprise if the energy density of two types of fuel are much different, because the biomass is formed only in the annual order whereas coal formed after tens of millions of years.

He says one of the shortcomings of biomass is the density of its energies are low. If the biomass is used as the primary fuel in a large scale power plants, then the rate "volumetris input" is required must be very large.

"On the other hand, the use of biomass waste in small scale power plants (local) require specific investment costs are high, many carriers, and has a low thermal efficiency," he said.

According to him, having regard to the various potential and barriers, solutions that are required are "co-firing" or "co-combustion", i.e. joint between the combustion of coal and biomass in large scale fuel PLTU space that's already there.

"However, if both lebik PLTU coal was located near a source of waste biomass (less than 50-80 kilometers) so that the cost of transporting the biomass is not too high," he said.
