"Apophis will reach Earth within a distance of 37 thousand up to 38 thousand kilometers on April 13, 2029. It looks like the asteroid will hit Earth on April 13, 2036, "said Professor Leonid Sokolov from Saint Petersburg State University.

Scientists say however the chance of a collision in 2036 is small by saying that the asteroid seem to be split into smaller parts and collision with Earth smaller can occur in the next years.

"Our task is to think of and develop various alternative plans as well as the draft Act which depend on the results of the observations of Apophis further," said Sokolov.

The Asteroid was discovered in 2004 and is regarded as the greatest threat to the planet Earth although the scientists of the NASA reduces the likelihood of a dangerous collision with Earth in 2036.
