Steve Jobs opened up the World Wide Developers Conference on Monday with a keynote address to a packed house in San Francisco, where he unveiled Apple's newestiPhone, the iPhone 4. With a new retinal display that boast crisper, clearer images and text, packing four times as many pixels into the same amount of space, a new camera, and FaceTime video calling, Jobs' excitement was clear. He calls this the biggest leap since the original iPhone. See all the images from Monday's event from our live blog here.

Like this Reply to this comment by abcd9009 June 7, 2010 7:37 PM PDT It's because Verizon is still using the outdated CDMA network. had Verizon been on GSM iPhone would have been on Verizon already. Like this by Synthmeister June 7, 2010 8:15 PM PDT Think about why...

1. AT&T is allowing almost everyone to upgrade to a new iPhone immediately, instead waiting the full two years for their original contracts to run out. (Of course, they have to re-up for two more years!)

2. AT&T has suddenly come out with cheaper data plans--required for iPhone purchases.

3. AT&T has finally activated tethering (although certainly not "cheap" but finally available)

Hmm, methinks that AT&T's golden iGoose is wandering off in 4 to 6 months.

Also, consider that with iOS 4.0, Skype, Vonage, etc. become real world options on both the iPhone and the forthcoming iPod touch. Like this Reply to this comment by Thranx June 8, 2010 10:12 AM PDT the part I love was that jobs said the human eye can't distingush anything over 300 pixels per inch... but he didn't say at what distance. :) I can't identify individual pixels at 20 feet on my 24" monitor, but I can at 2 feet.

Needless to say, 326 ppi is fabulous... I would like to see that in a 24" flavor on my desk. :) ... not for many many moons, and likely not even then. Video chatting on an iPhone will be great and I hope Skype becomes and alternative to FaceTime, but even if not, this will be great. Who knows, FaceTime could come to the PC. Overall, I'm super excited about the new iPhone Like this Reply to this comment by London_Photographer August 20, 2010 12:20 AM PDT Apple is an iconic brand, but i think that in years to come the shots of Mr Ive in front of the black screen with his black top and blue jeans will become as iconic!
